LG Innotek Hai Phong is a large-scale manufacturing facility focusing on in smartphone camera modules, supported by 200+ internal transmission lines across the plant. The site spans nearly 150,000 m² and operates with a workforce of 5,000+ employees.
Before the project began, the factory relied on an inspection solution provided by Ap-tech. However, the inspection performance did not meet expectations, with the system achieving only ~70% accuracy.
This level of accuracy led to inconsistent inspection results and increased the need for manual verification, making it difficult to maintain stable quality control at production scale.
To address the inspection accuracy gap, SotaTek deployed SotaVision in an on-premise setup to keep all production data securely within the factory. The solution used dedicated PC hardware to run both the SotaVision software and the factory’s existing software, ensuring smooth integration into the current production environment.
Because the project required working in a no-Internet environment—and import/export documentation processes were not a core strength—SotaTek’s engineers mitigated operational constraints by pre-installing and pre-configuring the full software package off-site. This enabled fast deployment and stable operation on the factory floor without requiring any Internet connection.
SotaVision was configured to inspect semiconductor components and detect multiple defect types, including:
- Missing solder glue
- Solder glue contamination/sticking
- Excess solder glue
- Solder glue drop/fall-off
- Misplaced components
- Incorrectly mounted components
The solution was designed to meet the customer’s target outcomes after deployment:
- Increase defect detection accuracy to 99%
- Achieve real-time processing speed of under 50 ms
- Detect extremely small defects as small as 0.3 mm
- Reduce manual inspection workload by 30%
After deploying SotaVision, LG Innotek Hai Phong achieved a significant leap in inspection performance and operational efficiency:
- 99.99% defect detection accuracy, exceeding the customer’s target
- Real-time processing speed under 50 ms, enabling high-throughput production support
- 0.3 mm as the smallest detectable defect size
- 30% reduction in manual inspection workload
- 12+ defect types automatically identified, improving consistency and coverage
Beyond technical KPIs, the solution delivered clear business impact:
- Lower operating costs, driven by reduced manual labor and less waste caused by defects
- Improved pass rate and fewer customer returns, strengthening product quality and customer satisfaction
Stakeholder feedback was highly positive. The Korean customer team expressed surprise that a Vietnam-based technology solution could drive such measurable quality improvements. Meanwhile, the local Vietnamese IT contact praised both SotaTek’s solution and the team’s responsive, dedicated support throughout implementation.
